SUMMARY:Iceland Volcano Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The Iceland Volcano Marathon takes place on Saturday\, 27 June 2026\, in the epic volcanic region near Lake Mývatn in northern Iceland. This adventure-packed event offers three distances: full marathon (42.195 km)\, half marathon (21.1 km)\, and a quarter marathon (10.55 km)\, all starting at the foot of the massive Hverfjall crater on rocky\, volcanic terrain combining sand\, gravel\, lava fields\, and asphalt. The course winds through the dramatic Dimmuborgir lava formations\, up and around Hverfjall\, and for marathoners\, continues past Lúdent crater before rejoining the shorter routes and finishing at Vogar Ferðaþjónusta. Both the full and half marathons begin at 07:30 AM with a 7‑hour cut‑off\, including a checkpoint at 32 km for marathoners at 5 h 15 min. As a protected trail run\, registrations are through a multi‑day tour package for all international participants (hence standalone entries are not allowed).
