Polar Circle Marathon

The Polar Circle Marathon in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland is also called “the coolest marathon on Earth” and returns on Saturday–Sunday, 24–25 October 2026, with the marathon (42.195 km) on Saturday and the half marathon (21.1 km) on Sunday. Both races start at about 08:30 AM, with cut‑offs of 7 hours for the marathon and 4 hours for the half marathon. The course is an adventurous mix of gravel and snow-covered roads, tundra, and even a ~3 km loop across the Greenland ice sheet, complete with spikes required for safety. After exiting the ice, runners descend approximately 500 m and navigate a steep 75 m rise about 5 km from the finish in Kangerlussuaq. Temperatures range from around –15 °C at the start to –5 °C mid‑race, with wind, snow, and icy surfaces common, so sturdy trail shoes, spikes, and layered wind-resistant gear are essential
This event combines extreme arctic conditions, breathtaking icy and tundra landscapes, and a bucket-list-worthy adventure. This is not just a run, but a full-on expedition.
